In the 1880s, Wm & Anna went into business.

This photo, from about 1891, shows William (about 36 yrs.) Anna (31) Clara (10), Emma (9), George (7), Maggie (5), Walter (4), and Flora (baby in Anna's arms) in front of the Ahrens Saloon & Shoe Shop, believed to be in Sunman, Indiana. They then moved to Latimer, Iowa, where Anna died in 1904, after the birth of their 14th child.
